Martin Luther King Day Event – Monday, January 20, 2014
As Martin Luther King Day approaches this Monday, January 20th I wanted to invite you all to a special event that will commemorate the day and its importance to the entire Englewood Community. I am also pleased that our new U.S. Senator Cory Booker will attend the event and annual service.
Please join Rev. Jovan Davis, Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, at a Celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Celebration will begin at 9.30AM with a Rally on the steps of City Hall (2-10 N. Van Brunt Street) followed at 10.00AM with a March from City Hall to Ebenezer Baptist Church (216 Fourth Street, Englewood). Following the arrival at Ebenezer, the Annual Martin Luther King Day Service will begin at 11.00AM.
The legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and its significance grows with every passing year. Marking the day is always important in keeping this legacy alive. As Dr. King said in his own words, “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.”
I hope that you will join Reverend Davis, Senator Booker and me on this special day. I look forward to seeing you all there.
