The Boys and Girls Club of Garfield finalizes Lease to Operate Ice Skating Arena
(ENGLEWOOD, NEW JERSEY) – Mayor Frank Huttle III finalized a lease agreement with the Boys and Girls Club of Garfield for the ice skating arena. The Boys and Girls Club will operate the arena and provide programming benefiting residents of Englewood.

“I promised to expand and improve recreational programming in Englewood. With the arrival of the Boys and Girls Club, the children of Englewood will have a fun and safe skating rink along with the kinds of recreational program that build confidence and character,” Huttle said.

Under terms of the lease agreement, Englewood residents will benefit from discounted private rental times and a guaranteed discount of a $1 off charges at public skating sessions. In addition, the Boys and Girls Club will operate special skating sessions free of charge to Englewood residents and make the arena available to the Englewood School District during the week.

The Boys and Girls Club will also create a calendar that will provide the public, ice skaters and students the ability to utilize and enjoy the Ice Arena. The Club will also maintain regular skating sessions throughout the week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from noon to 2PM, and on Saturdays and Sundays for three and four hours respectively between, 11AM and 6PM.

“Englewood residents will have access to a free skating session once a month and enjoy discounted rates at all other times,” Huttle said. “This agreement provides a great opportunity for the Englewood Recreational Department to plan and organize events and also makes the arena available to our school children for athletics.”

The Boys and Girls Club’s lease of the ice skating arena compliments an earlier initiative to bring the YWCA’s community programming to the Liberty School. The combination of these non-profit programs promises a diverse array of recreational programs and activities for Englewood residents.

“With these two initiatives, we have accomplished our goals and fulfilled the promise of bringing non-profit organizations into Englewood to provide our community with an immediate platform of programming and services,” Huttle said. “Bringing both the Boys and Girls Club and the YWCA to Englewood will meet the longstanding demand for these services in our city.”

The Boys and Girls Club of Garfield will lease the John T. Wright Ice Arena from the City of Englewood. The organization, affiliated with Boys and Girls Club of America, has operated since 1959 and provided athletic, social, education and vocational programming.
